Ian has had an interest in transport, particularly in railways and road passenger transport, since the early 1980s. On his travels throughout the U.K. and across Europe he has amassed a substantial collection of photographs and literature. Several of his photographs have been published in magazines and he is happy to discuss the use of his work in other publications (details of how to contact him are on the Contact page). Ian is also available to give talks to transport societies, local history groups, etc.
A selection of articles by Ian and galleries of his photographs is under preparation (one of his coronavirus lockdown projects!) and details of these together with links will appear below.
The Skoda 14Tr Trolleybus in Kaunas
Lithuania's second city, Kaunas, is served by a fleet of around 150 trolleybuses running on 14 routes. For 37 years from 1982 to 2019 the mainstay of the city's trolleybus fleet was the Skoda 14Tr of which 144 were operated in all. In this article Ian tells the story of Kaunas' 14Tr fleet in the context of the system's development and the major political and societal changes which took place in Lithuania as the country moved from an unwilling member of the USSR to a modern independent state within the European Union.
